bit of an update.

After chasing a few people to confirm some details we now set that were going to build to pass IVA from scratch, this is because i am looking at building more than one vehicle in the long run and its just easier.

At the minute the cage is now in CAD ready to bend, before that happens i need to find a shell to confirm the VW dimensions are correct.

Mechanicals wise plan is to build the jigs for the suspension arms over the next few months, i have settled on a +5"/+5" rear arm and kingpin +3"/+3" front end. There is also a jig for the wide front beam.

The questions over gearbox options has been sorted, were going 091 with new internals from weddle/albins. As part of the job were maching a new bell housing to match direct to the V8, this will have a hydraulic thrust bearing, V8 clutch and flywheel and retain the proper V8 starter.... at the minute a mock up bullhousing/input shaft is being machined Razz

once everything has been tested then all the bits will availiable if people want them, it may well also be the case that i build an extra rolling chassis to sell off and help fund the whole thing (same as i did with our bikes).

few other things in the pipeline.

still doing a new grp front end, similar to the Chiro one but this will have 4" healight holes (main headlights will be like on the http://www.camburg.com/?p=404# ones)... wings will be wider and the bonet pins recessed to pass IVA.

I have been doing some work with a wheel manufacture and I'm looking at extending that across to build us some 3 part all ally rims (similar to the racing centerlines but bolt together not rivited).. in theory it will gives rims anywhere from 3" to 17" wide off the shelf.

Because i'm using a split torsion bar and coilover system I managed to get one of our suppliers to agree to machine us custom torsion bars... these are going to be the dogs danglies made from 4340 aircraft steel.

the 091 is having a HD rear bearing thurst plate fitted so it makes sense that we do a new gearbox mount at the same time. plan is for a new cnc'd steel cage and then two delrin tube mounts.

the V8 for this project has also turned up, it will rebuilt with a few tweaks.. lower compression pistons, big volume oil pump (clue where this baja is going Wink )....

busy busy busy....

Hi

Interesting project

I would be interested in purchasing a set of the extended front arms (I guess they would be linkpin?)

Regards

Hurdsman

right continent but its not for altiude... crap petrol thumb

had a bit of time spare and the gearbox case is still here (off for machining soon) so i made a start on me new gearbox mounts/cage and put it all through the cad ready to cut.

opted to go with a ring mount with twin tubes, mounts are self centering and the bolts are captive with a lock... Cool

another job done, 9999999999999 to do.
